This guide will show you how to find your Mac’s admin username and complete the settings migration for the ExpressVPN app for Mac.

Note: The reason for this settings migration is due to our decision to change our Mac developer account. This requires us to migrate all current settings within the app to the new developer account.

Rest assured that there will be no changes to either your Mac or ExpressVPN accounts. We simply require you to sign in again so we can authenticate your account. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Note: The steps below were tested on a Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma.

To find your Mac’s admin username:

  1. Click "Apple" icon. located in the top-left of your Mac’s screen.
  2. Depending on the macOS version, click either System Settings… or System Preferences.
  3. Click Users & Groups. If you are unable to find it, type Users & Groups into the search bar.
  4. Find the account labeled Admin and take note of the name, as you will need this to complete the settings migration.

Now that you have you Mac’s admin username, return to the Authentication Required pop-up to complete the settings migration:

  1. On the Authentication Required pop-up, click Continue.
  2. Enter your Mac’s admin username and password. Then click Allow.

Please note that if you click Deny, you will be signed out of the app. To sign back in, you will need your activation code.

  3. Once again, enter your Mac’s admin username and password. Then click Allow.

You have successfully completed the settings migration for the ExpressVPN app for Mac. You will now remain signed in to the ExpressVPN app and will not be asked to do this process again.
