BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS; TUESDAY 27 MAY 2025 — Leading consumer privacy and security company ExpressVPN today announced the launch of its fully redesigned mobile applications for iOS and Android, introducing a suite of new features and enhancements for an improved user experience across mobile devices.
These upgrades have been sequentially rolled out to existing users, and full availability for all customers is scheduled for 30 May.
The latest version includes a brand-new speed test tool, design and usability upgrades, a server location map, OpenVPN protocol support for iOS, and more—providing users with greater performance, flexibility, and control in how they connect and protect their digital lives.
Shay Peretz, Chief Information Officer at ExpressVPN, said: “Mobile is the primary way many of our users stay connected and protected, so it’s essential that the app experience be intuitive, fast, and feature-rich. Our redesigned apps make it easier than ever to find the fastest server, customize preferences, and get support—while continuing to uphold the high standards of speed, privacy, and security that ExpressVPN is known for.”
What’s new?
Enhanced design and user experience:
With upgraded visuals and a simplified interface, ExpressVPN’s mobile design puts ease of use first. Key improvements include a clearer Profile screen (formerly the Options menu), streamlined Help content, and quicker access to settings.
OpenVPN support for iOS:
With the addition of OpenVPN on iOS, users now have more protocol options across platforms, empowering them to tailor their experience based on their needs—whether it’s maximum compatibility or speed.
Speed Test feature:
Users can now run speed tests within the app to check the speed of the server they are connected to and find the fastest server available based on real-time performance data—perfect for streaming, gaming, or secure browsing on the go.
Smart Location upgrade:
The newly improved Smart Location algorithm intelligently recommends the top 3-5 VPN locations based on speed, latency, and distance—helping users get the best performance with a single tap. Users will see the top 3 fastest server locations for them to connect to at the top of the VPN locations list.
All-new server map view:
Users can see their current server selection in a new map view, offering a more intuitive and engaging way to see where they are connected within ExpressVPN’s global network.
Peretz added: “We’ve redesigned the mobile app experience from the ground up to meet the expectations of today’s privacy-conscious, always-connected users. From visual upgrades to under-the-hood improvements, this update is packed with user-centric enhancements. It’s only the beginning of what we have planned.”
To see and use the new and improved app, users can update or download directly from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
